How To Become a Real Estate Agent

In Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio, you must be 18 or older and have a high school diploma or a GED to become a real estate agent. You must also pass an FBI criminal background check, complete a pre-licensure class, take a real estate exam, and apply for a real estate license. Ohio has an additional requirement: getting sponsored by an Ohio broker.

At HomeServices Real Estate Academy, we offer pre-licensure courses that meet the requirements for your state. These courses prepare you for a commercial or residential real estate career. Additionally, our classes are taught by real estate agents, brokers, and property managers with several years of real-world experience.

Our course addresses topics like:

  • Business foundations.
  • Real estate principles.
  • Brokerage management.
  • Real estate law.
  • Real estate marketing.
  • Property management.
  • Construction and blueprints.
  • Urban planning.
  • Commercial real estate.
  • Real estate appraisal.
  • Land planning and zoning.
  • Home inspection.
  • Real estate investment and more.

Is It Hard to Become a Real Estate Agent?

Like anything worthwhile, becoming a real estate agent takes hard work and effort. You must be willing to learn the laws and regulations of the industry, pass licensure exams, and work with real estate brokers to get real-world experience. However, it takes significantly less time than earning a college degree, which typically takes four years.

Completing your real estate pre-licensure course can take as little as two weeks. After completing it, you'll be ready to take your state's real estate licensure exam and find a broker you can work with to begin your career. At HomeServices Real Estate Academy, we offer in-person and online pre-licensure classes at different times and lengths of time so you can find options that fit your schedule and a pace that's comfortable for you.

Some options that we have available are:

  • 2-week daytime classes that meet from 8 AM to 4:30 PM.
  • 12-week evening classes that meet from 6 PM to 9:45 PM.
  • 4-week weekend classes.
