Follow the steps below to learn how to get a real estate license in Indiana.

Step #1: Pre-requirements: Meet the Age, Education, and Character Requirements

You must be at least 18 years old to qualify for a real estate license. You also need to have your high school diploma or a GED equivalent. Indiana also requires that you have no history of a crime that would require disciplinary action or could endanger the public.

Step #2: Complete an Approved 90-Hour Pre-Licensure Course

Your 90-hour broker pre-license course covers everything you need to know for a successful career as a real estate agent. At HomeServices Real Estate Academy, we offer 2-week and 2-week pre-licensure classes for Indiana residents. Our team of professional instructors are licensed real estate agents and brokers, providing you with real-world knowledge and experience so you can ask questions from someone who’s been there.

The Indiana broker pre-license covers things like:

  • Real estate law
  • Real estate finance
  • Property management
  • Contract writing
  • Real estate appraisal
  • Commercial real estate
  • Home inspection

Step #3: Take the Indiana Real Estate Exam

Next, you must pass the 125-question real estate exam the Professional Services Industry (PSI) administers. The exam covers state and national requirements; you must get at least 75% to pass.

At HomeServices Real Estate Academy, we offer test prep classes and cram sessions to prepare you.

Step #4: Find a Sponsoring Broker

Brokers are real estate agents who continue their training to advance their careers. This allows them to hire and train real estate agents. As you search for a sponsor, consider:

  • Their reputation
  • Their commission structure
  • Their technology usage
  • If there’s room for advancement within the brokerage
  • If their personality meshes with yours
  • Whether they’re a REALTOR®

Step #5: Apply for a Broker License

Apply for your real estate license with the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency.

Step #6: Complete Continuing Education Courses

You must continue taking courses to keep up with industry changes and advancements. You must take a 30-hour post-broker licensing course within two years of earning your license.
